Our Gala’s keynote speaker is former Los Angeles Times art reporter Suzanne Muchnic, whose book, “LACMA So Far: Portrait of a Museum in the Making,” recounts the 61-year evolution of L.A.’s County Museum of Art.

This year LACHS’ honors will go to Betsy Kalin, the director and producer of East L.A. Interchange; to Las Angelitas del Pueblo, the volunteer-docents group that offers free walking tours in Los Angeles Plaza Historic District; and to Dr. Viet Thanh Nguyen, winner of the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for fiction for his novel “The Sympathizer.”

You don’t want to miss this tour of the Saint Sophia Cathedral + traditional Greek food for dinner + L.A. City Historical Society’s awards ceremony. All three for $75 per person, if you are a LACHS member. If you are not, you can pay $100 for the Gala and get a one-year membership in our historical society!

Encore Presentation: “This is L.A.”
Speaker: City Archivist Michael Holland

Los Angeles, CA 90071

Re-edited version of our 3rd Marie Northrop lecture from June 5 featuring newly digitized footage from the city archives. The presentation was such a runaway hit that many had to be turned away at the door because every seat in the auditorium was taken. Our new and improved version of the lecture is offered for all who missed it the first time — or would like to see it again.
