LACHS Webinar - Hollywood’s Trains & Trolleys - A talk with Marc Wanamaker

LACHS Webinar from November 3, 2022

A presentation with Marc Wanamaker - one of the leading historians of Los Angeles, Hollywood, and the Motion Picture and Television Industries.  Marc’s presentation is based on the book that he co-authored Hollywood’s Trains & Trolleys.

The presentation explains how the early trolley lines influenced the locations of film production studios in the greater Los Angeles area. Real estate agents made contact with studio moguls and guided them to areas in Los Angeles where trolley and rail lines were already in operation making possible easy access for thousands of employees. The movie industry always had a fascination with moving objects, whether horses, trains, or automobiles, because they evoked excitement for audiences and sold tickets. Come along on our journey and view the drama and comedy produced in Hollywood's films with trains and trolleys.
